Welcome to Louisville Urbanist
Louisville Urbanist was created in order to cover important, often neglected issues in the urban realm of Louisville. The city currently has no publication dedicated to issues of urban design, and there is a lot to discuss. Auto-centric infrastructure has rendered Louisville a city that often does not feel like a city. Lack of pedestrian safety, massive one-way roads, urban highways, and suburban commuters dominate urban life despite being antithetical to it. This shouldn’t be how things are.
My whole life has basically been spent in Louisville. I grew up in Hikes Point and now live in Old Louisville. A fear of cars made my suburban childhood isolating, which has made the shape of our urban landscape and mobility vitally important to me. This blog will cover important urban issues in Louisville, but it is not “unbiased” in the traditional sense, I will ultimately be an advocate for policies based off prevailing literature, research, and some personal anecdotes.
This blog also serves as a tool for me to help improve my writing. I am not a professional writer, but would like to be better at putting my thoughts to paper (or keyboard). Louisville Urbanist allows to me to talk about my passions, improve myself, and hopefully bring light to some important local issues. This is all, for now, an experiment. I hope some people will enjoy it, besides me.
